Alan Gaukel Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Earl Gaukel on February 6, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born in Brantford, Ontario, a New Year’s baby, the first-born son of Earl and Helen (nee Bartlett). Alan’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Debbie (nee Spence); children Melody, Amy (Mark Solomon), Kristy, and Ryan (Alyssia nee Rouse); and grandchildren Elliott, Holly, Matthew, Caydance and Brock. He was predeceased by his brother Ken and sister-in-law Marg and will be forever remembered by his brothers, sisters and in-laws (Mary), Rick (Joan), Kate (Les), Patricia and his many nieces and nephews.

Alan will be remembered for his sense of humour, ability to tell stories and how he cared for others. He wore many hats and had many hobbies in his life, with passions for hockey, including refereeing, auto racing, photography and being outdoors. He had a long career in manufacturing that spanned many industries from farm equipment to the automotive industry to industrial lighting. He had many happy memories of spending time at the Bartlett and Gaukel family farms, made memories with the family camping at Balsam Lake and doing projects around the house. Alan loved spending time with his family, his dogs, and especially his grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored.

Al’s family would like to thank Sun Parlour Nursing home in Leamington for many years of care and support and for a touching tribute as he left the home for the final time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Diabetes Canada ( or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (
