Obituary for Albertina Silveira Oliveira (Vitorino)

OLIVEIRA, Albertina Silveira: July 29, 1931 - January 14, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Albertina Silveira Oliveira, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, on January 14th, 2024, at 92 years. Born in Santa Luzia, Pico, Azores, to José Silveira Vitorino and Maria Guilhermina Rosa, Albertina's life was a journey marked by grit and a fiery spirit. Albertina married Francisco Oliveira on November 19th, 1949, beginning a shared adventure that led them from Pico to Canada in 1959. They initially landed in Dundee, Quebec, for about a year, before settling in Cambridge, Ontario, in 1960. Francisco worked for 37 years for Donald McQueen Shaver in Cambridge, while Albertina became the heart of their home. In retirement, Albertina and Francisco enjoyed splitting their time between their homes in Bandeiras, Pico and Cambridge, Ontario. Much of their 67 years together was spent hosting family and friends for meals and playing Sueca. Albertina was known for her humour, fiery spirit, and ability to always be right. As the oldest of three brothers, she was a true matriarch and played life's cards with skill and heart. She leaves us with cherished memories and lessons of strength and love. Predeceased by her husband, Francisco (2016), and brother Luis (2018), Albertina leaves behind a loving family. Her legacy continues through her sons, Manny and Frank; granddaughters Dominique (Giulio) and Patrice (William); great-granddaughters, Sofia and Emilia; and brothers, Franklin and Alberto. She will be missed by all of her extended family and friends. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the care team (Maria, Mary, Ines, Rosa, Nehema, Karen, Cindy, Helen and Shelima) that became like a second family to Albertina. A visitation will be held at Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas St, N.) on Monday, January 29th, 2024 from 5 pm – 9 pm. A mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, January 30th, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church (185 Elgin St, S.) at 11 AM. Following the service, Albertina will return to Pico to be buried alongside her husband Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
