Obituary for Alec James “Jamie” Millar

MILLAR, Alec James “Jamie”

Passed away peacefully the morning of March 20, 2024.

Born September 10,1959, in Niagara Falls, to Alice and Roderick Millar, Jamie moved with his family to Galt at the age of two. Big brother to Ian and Jennifer.

A long-standing legend within Community Living Cambridge, Jamie first resided at South Lodge when he joined the CLC family in 1978. Jamie was one of the original six residents at Rose Street group living, which became his forever home. Rose Street housemates thought of Jamie as their brother. His family would enjoy holidays and visits with him, remaining deeply involved in his life. Mom always ensured he was dressed in the latest fashions.
Jamie worked at ARC Industries for many years. He then attended Links and the Seniors’ Program. Jamie also attended day programs for community and social connection. He enjoyed swimming, darts, playing pool, coffee, Spiderman, Star Trek, and going to a local pub for a beer and good food. In his retirement, he would entertain himself for hours, sitting in his favourite chair while rocking out to his own rhythm.

Jamie was predeceased by his father in 2002, his stepfather, Harvey Sauder, in 2019, as well as many other loving relatives. Jamie will be deeply missed by all who knew him and fondly remembered by his CLC family.
Jamie spent his last few weeks under the exceptional care of the staff on the 3East Palliative Care Unit at Freeport. Their kindness, compassion, and professionalism was beyond measure.

A memorial service will take place at Corbett’s Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street, Cambridge at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, with visitation from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. A reception will follow. For those wishing to attend, but unable to do so in person, please join the livestream;
