Obituary for Betty Jane Makcrow (Brix)

Betty Jane Makcrow (nee Brix)

August 26, 1926 – December 6, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Makcrow at Hilltop Manor in Cambridge on Wednesday December 6th, 2023 at the age of 97. Cremation has taken place.

Betty is loved and remembered always by daughter Jane Evans and son Douglas of Calgary. Cherished grandmother to Michael (Claire) Evans and Stephen (Sarah) Evans as well as great-grandmother to Joshua, Natalie, Julia, and Nicholas.

She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harry Makcrow, parents Frank and Agnes Brix, sister Shirley Snider, and son-in-law George Evans.

Betty was born in Hespeler in 1926, where she lived and worked for most of her life before moving to London, ON in the mid-70s. Once she and husband Harry retired, they purchased a motorhome and travelled extensively all-over North America, later settling in Kitchener. After Harry’s death in 2000, Betty soon returned to Hespeler becoming a friendly face at Saint Luke’s Place where she lived independently up until this past summer. Betty’s secret to a long and healthy life included many walks, a great sense of humour, and a glass of wine or two.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Manor for their excellent care during the final few months of Betty’s life. In lieu of a service, a private family gathering has taken place.
