Obituary for John Rayner Stalker

Passed away peacefully at Lisaard House, in his 88th year. Survived by his loving wife Doreen (Simmons) of 64 years , daughter, Susan ( Mark), sons John and Gary (Andrea) ; grandchild Lisa ( Les ), and great grandchildren Samantha Caden, Neveah and great-great grandchild Maya; and several sisters and many nieces and nephews. John was born in Valens, Beverly Twp. where he lived, worked and played his entire life. In the early sixties he built a house for his family on a small section of the land from the family farm. Early employment found him working at the Whittier Bros sawmill then later becoming the co-owner of the sawmill and lumber business. He loved to work, hunt, and garden his entire life. You could always count on him to provide your with a taste of something fresh from his garden or sometimes even some venison summer sausage. Additionally, he was known for his excellent pig roasting talents on his home-made traveling BBQ.
John was an avid hunter and liked to hunt in the Cochrane area for over 50 years, he had many hunting buddies who enjoyed the same. He was liked by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to Ron and his hunting buddies for helping these last few months.
John liked to stay in touch with many people in the neighbourhood. He regularly visited many and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. If there was an auction sale near or far, you would likely find him there bidding on the treasures from days gone by. This father, grandfather, friend, uncle and neighbour will be greatly mess by many.
Burial at Kirkwall Cemetery has taken place.
A celebration of life will be held at Clyde and Scotts corners W.l. Hall 1459 Sheffield RD Feb 17 from 1 to 4.
