Obituary for Maria Elvira Augusto (De Melo)

Maria Elvira Augusto peacefully passed away on February 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. Born on January 10, 1933, she grew up in the village of Salao, Faial, Horta Azores. Maria immigrated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1968 with her four children. She resided there until she then moved to Cambridge, Ontario, in 2005.
Predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Joe Augusto (June 2006), and grandson Nelson Terra (February 2021), Maria was the cherished mother of Joe Augusto Terra (Maria Do Carmo), Liduino Melo (Tina), Gilbert Augusto (Alice), and Manuela Dasilva (Fernando). Maria leaves behind her brother, Jose Eduardo Silveira, and her 9 beautiful grandchildren: Nelson, Dave, Stephanie (Brett), Dennis (Dave), Jordan (Megan), Derek (Lucy), Brian (Karen), Justin, and Ryan (Kaitlin). Maria is also the proud grandmother of 8 great-grandchildren.
Maria will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will be forever cherished, and she will live on in the hearts of those she left behind.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Paramed personal support workers and a special thank you to the staff of the 4th floor Med B at Cambridge Memorial for their kind, empathetic, and compassionate care during this difficult time.
Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St, N Cambridge, where family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 6-9 pm. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 pm. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 185 Elgin St S Cambridge, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 10 am. Cremation to follow. Maria will be laid to rest beside her mother Maria Adelina at Woodlawn cemetery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Maria's legacy of love and light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever. May she rest in eternal peace.
