FIGUEIREDO, Maria da Gloria (Tavares) – passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday February 13, 2024, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Predeceased by her beloved husband Pedro “Peter” (2017). Cherished mother and guiding light to her only daughter Suzy (Morvin Edwards) and an adored Avõ of Tanner Pinto (Ashley) and Tienna Pinto (Zubair). Maria da Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Deolinda Monteiro and Laurinda Reis (together affectionately known as the Golden Girls), as well as her godchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She is survived by her sister Filomena Tavares and sister-in-law Maria dos Anjos Tavares (Santa Maria). She is predeceased by her parents Antonio Bairos Tavares and Alexandrina Chaves Sousa and her brothers Antonio and Jose Tavares.

Maria da Gloria was a kind-hearted, gentle soul who devoted her life wholeheartedly supporting her husband and family. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness, always extending a helping hand to others with a warm heart and smile. She was lovingly referred to as the Queen Mother by her daughter and grandchildren.

Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St. N. Cambridge, where the family will receive friends on Monday February 19, 2024, from 4:00-8:00pm, with Rosary being recited in the funeral home chapel at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 185 Elgin St. S. Cambridge on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the exceptional care Maria da Gloria received at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in recent months, extending heartfelt gratitude to the countless doctors and nurses on the 4th floor, and acknowledging their unwavering support. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to Cambridge Memorial Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
